Potomac Rifle Match, April 19, 2008
All photos by Duane Spethman, Potomac

(Unfortunately, I don't recognize everyone in the photos.  Sorry.  Maybe next match.  I plead that I was focusing on trying to make the match run and to even hit a few targets myself. Gary)

Hunter Class target array at 279 yards from Shooting Position # 7

Shooting Position 7, 360 yards, one Hunter target and one Precision target.

Position 8, Hunter Class at 156 yards

Match safety briefing continues; Lea listens to her "master's voice."

Still briefing

Old and new

Forming squads

Squads start moving out

Colin Brown shoots his first rifle match (and did well using his wife's rifle).

John Gross shoots Hunter Class from Position 8.

Glen Demaray instructs others how to do it.

Three "handguns" in the match, this one run by Eric Wallace of Dillon.

The effect of a 360-degree muzzle brake.

This "handgun" gets used to dust.

Ernie Bishop of Gillette, Wyoming ran this piece.

Looking past 5 at Position 6 (more pics of the stream later)

Larry Lamplan of Gilette shoots his first match with a stunted rifle.

Stunted rifles shooting and spotting

Colin Brown shoots

Colin hears about the M1 from Charlie Woolley

Charlie ran his M1 in Hunter Class with iron sights

Charlie knocked down the 500-yard Hunter Class target on Position 2 with his M1 - the only target failure in the match.

There were a number of ARs in the match, mostly in Hunter Class

Shannon O'Keefe concentrates.

Randy must be taking his own photos

Randy's turn to shoot

Randy again

John keeping score, Scott watching, and Adam spotting.

Adam Edman runs his AR in Hunter Class

Scott shoots his .303 British antique - his "secret" rifle.

Scott times Adam while John spots.

Probably Adam's AR.

Lee and Dale.  I think these guys were having fun.  Duane says, "Fat men can shoot too!"

Lee Hyslop shooting Hunter Class

Mike Dominick spotting hits

Those funny "handguns" again.

Dave Broberg supervises

Gary prepares to shoot

Where ARE those danged targets?

Checking range card

Dave Broberg scores, Larry Lamplan watches, Gary shoots.

Notice the high-end cheek-piece - a piece of pipe insulation.

Dang!  Missed the long one! (Or, why did the trigger just fall out of the rifle.)

Some folks thought this rifle was broken each shot.  Others thought it was a shotgun.

Colin and Charlie visit.

Colin ready to shoot.

Can I look like a gang-banger with my hat backwards?

Let's see. does it go in shiny end up, or shiny end down?

It pays to be a bud of Duane's if you want your picture taken a lot.

Did Charlie get his sling figured out?

Charlie Woolley with his M1 in Hunter Class, a tough match for iron sights.

Are they really shooting, or could they be napping?

Looks like Mike's heading for the barn.

Is Dale's piece long enough?  I guess nobody told him the landowner wants us to keep the elk spooked out of their hay meadow.
Le and Dale continue to look like they're having fun.

Adam's bipod may be longer than his rifle.

Scott shoots his "Top Secret" rifle.

A few Hunter Class targets are not visible from prone.

Our high-tech stream crossing, courtesy of Shannon.

I think Duane was hoping he'd catch somebody falling into the stream.

Some shooters were prepared for camping out.

No shortage of gear to pack.

No, not a bandage - a cartridge garter.

Precision Class winner Glen Demaray looks satisfied with his shooting.

Gotta stand tall to spot.

Rustin Slaughter got to do some scorekeeping, in addition to being a Squad Leader.

This squad used spotting scopes particularly well.  They said the easily adjustable tripod made the difference.

Larry trying to hit an 800-yard target with his stunted rifle.

OK, who brought spare ammo in my wierd cartridge?

DANG, again!!

Colin banging the Hunter Class targets.  Eric Wallace's special tool left behind in the foreground (inside joke).

What's this bump for on the back of the rifle?

Looks like Shannon was pleased with his shooting too.

Pass the ammo please.

It didn't start to snow until the after-match wrapup meeting.

Even then, the snow was light.

Some shooters look tired.  It was a long day of shooting.

Analysis of the shoot and taking suggestions for subsequent matches.

Thanks to Duane for taking all these photos.  Duane shot top of Hunter Class last match but opted to run a camera for this match.
